The old ODA product used to make what we called "tar babies", or tar balls in the line, sometimes even to the point where clogging lines took place.  The new products have a much better track record, even on some of the more corroded lines where Iron oxide (hematite rust) is present.

I would still think a clean in place protocol, prior to using this product is recommended.
